This backyard started as a wide-open grass lot behind a beautiful home - a lot of potential, but nothing to use it. The homeowner wanted something that actually worked for everyday life. A place to sit, cook, entertain, and just be outside. So we started where every good build starts - measuring and laying out the footprint to get everything exactly right.

What we ended up with is a large custom Trex deck in a charcoal gray composite that runs the full width of the back of the house. The decking ties directly into the existing covered patio, creating one massive connected outdoor living area. Triple-step entries on both sides of the deck give it a clean, finished look - and the black metal railings running along the edges keep it feeling sharp and modern.

The pergola is the piece that really pulls it together. We built and installed it directly over a portion of the new deck, giving the homeowner a defined shaded zone right off the house. The dark stained timber framing matches the existing architectural trim on the home perfectly - it looks like it was always supposed to be there. That kind of intentional design is what separates a good outdoor build from a great one.

One of the biggest reasons we push Trex composite for decks like this is the long-term payoff. No staining, no sealing, no warping from heat and rain. This homeowner is not going to be out here every summer with a brush and a bucket. The deck holds up, stays looking good, and keeps more money in their pocket over time. For a space this large, that matters.

The finished result is a backyard that actually gets used. Multiple seating areas, a cooking space, room to host a crowd or just relax with coffee in the morning. Every square foot of it is functional. That is really the goal on a project like this - not just to build something that looks great in photos, but to build something that fits how the family actually lives.
