Every big finish starts with a messy middle. We're deep into a bathroom remodel and full interior tile job on this one, and right now it's all about getting the foundation right before anything else goes in.
In the bathroom, the old tile surround has been fully stripped back to bare cement board around the tub. That's exactly where it needs to be. Skipping this step - or trying to tile over failing material - is one of the most common shortcuts that leads to cracked grout, water damage behind the walls, and a redo job within a few years. We don't cut corners on the substrate.
Out in the main living areas, the old flooring has been removed across multiple rooms - living room, bedrooms, entry, dining area - all the way down to raw concrete slab. That's a lot of square footage, and getting all of it properly prepped and level before tile goes down is what separates a floor that lasts from one that doesn't. Hollow spots, lippage, loose tiles - those problems all trace back to what happens before the first tile ever gets set.
This is the unglamorous part of the job. No finished product to show yet - just bare concrete and open walls. But this stage is where good workmanship either gets built in or gets skipped. We take it seriously.
Stay tuned. The reveal on this one is going to be worth the wait.
